About Me

I write under the name Mike Gurak. I write poetry, short stories, and the occasional song. Besides writing and composing I love to sing. I'm a cantor at church where I sing one Sunday a month.

I live in Bedford, VA, the home of the Natonal D-Day memorial. Born and raised in New York State, I moved to Virginia when I was 39. I now consider Bedford my home. I'm the eldest of 5 children. My mother Betty Gurak wrote a book titled The Cycle Of Grief, available from Amazon. My books will be available on Amazon as a Kindle book.

I started my writing career later in life, publishing my first book at the age of 52. I had only been writing seriously for a few months before that. So I'm another example that you're never too old to do what you want to do. Unless of course you want to be the starting quarterback for the Raiders at age 73. That might be pushing it.

I have four books available right now. The first is Let Me Tell You A Story. This is a book of my short stories, a few blog posts, and some other things just for fun. The second is My Heart In Twenty-Four Lines. This is a book of over 60 poems. I created a new type of poem called natural poems. This book has five natural poems and the description of the poem type so you can create your own natural poems. The third is Say What Now?. This is a book of misquotes and misattributed quotes. The fourth is A Patient's Guide To Dialysis. This is an overview of the two types of dialysis, nutrition facts, your first day of dialysis, your care team, and more. It's a supplement to the information your dialysis center will give you. It's also perfect for family and friends who want to know more about what dialysis patients go through. It's available as a kindle book and paperback.
