I write under the name Mike Gurak. I write nonfiction books, poetry, and short stories. I also compose the occasional song.

I live in Bedford, VA, the home of the National D-Day Memorial. I moved here from New York State in 2007. I now consider Virginia my home.

I'm a self-published author with books available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I published my first book when I was 52, proving that you're never too old to do what you want to do. Unless you want to be the starting quarterback for the Raiders at 73. That might be pushing it a bit.

I was one of those kids who hated English class but could write well. Ironically, I didn't enjoy most peotry in school either. Leave it to me to discover free verse poetry relatively late in life.
